If you missed the Open Enrollment Period (which typically runs from November 1 to January 15), there are still ways to get health coverage outside of that window. Here’s how:

  1. Special Enrollment Period (SEP):
    • You may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period due to certain life events, such as:
      • Losing other health coverage (e.g., job-based insurance, Medicaid, or CHIP).
      • Getting married or divorced.
      • Having a baby or adopting a child.
      • Moving to a new area.
      • Changes in household income.
    • To check if you qualify, create a Marketplace account (or log into your existing one) and start your application. You can preview available plans and prices before applying. If you already have Marketplace coverage, learn how to report changes to your application. Once updated, your Eligibility Results will indicate if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period to switch plans1.
  2. Medicaid and CHIP:
    • You can apply for free or low-cost coverage through Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) at any time during the year. If you qualify, you can enroll immediately.

Remember, even outside of Open Enrollment, there are options available to help you secure the health coverage you need. Explore these pathways and find the right plan for your situation.
